Off duty or on duty didn’t matter for Capt. Sam Lane when he saved a 2-year-old girl and her family from a vicious dog during his vacation last year.Lane, 52, of the Terre Haute Fire Department, was recognized Thursday by the Breakfast Optimist Club with its John Osterloo Firefighter of the Year Award.
